The Birmingham Times...by adminA heated story of sex, drama and, a little love and fame, it follows the career of beautiful Terrance Mitchell, a successful male model with a slew of women at his beckoning call. Terrance is not caught up in his fortune, but after being scorned by a woman, surely begins to use it to his advantage to meet women. He begins sexual escapades with a variety of women of different ages, which in turn teaches him something about his own ideas of intimacy and sexuality. From his hotel in Memphis, Tn. a week before the signing, Tyree spoke about the importance of a book like this from a man's point of view. He said that this novel was a bit more provocative than his previous. Terrance was a very promiscuous ''player'', involved with women in almost every city he frequented. Though he does have a main girl in his adopted hometown of Atlanta, he is nowhere near the desire to settle down and have kids. He even says that he doesn't feel like life is happening unless he's traveling. On the move is his life, and each woman he is involved with knows their relationship with him is far from exclusive. This was refreshing because it made him a respectable “player.” While some of the women are cool with the casual relationship, a few have grander illusions of who they actually are in Terrance's life, and some begin doing the woman thing, attempts at whatever it takes to make him hers, which is not an easy task when he has women slinging it at him from both panty legs. Getting caught up in the possibilities of sex once he is turned out, or turned on, by one of the female characters, Terrance begins a mission to see just how far each woman he is dealing with will go. He even goes back to old loves to make some of his desires reality. He begins bold attempts to fulfill fantasies he previously was convinced would remain just those. ''Deep down they are all freaks'', he thinks to himself at one point. Tyree describes this as a realization that a lot of players come to; whether they become married, or continue to be in the game. While that may sound harsh, it is more about the man being held responsible for keeping a woman interested sexually. So often it is perceived to be up to the woman only. Keep your hair and nails done, your body tight, don't let yourself go. But the man also needs to keep his fantasies alive and bring those to the bedroom for his significant other, or others in Terrance's case. He tests his women, and in turn gets tested as the book deals witha current culture issue, down low brothers. Guys who may not appear to be gay, and may even be claiming to not be gay, but whose actions say otherwise. It gives a REAL MAN'S perspective of the issue, though not heavily. It's passing recognition seems to act as a statement within itself, that not every man who has a healthy sexual appetite is trying to poke whatever is tight. It uncovers how a lot of these men get caught up in the lifestyle to get ahead in their careers or become more popular. Because the issue is so heated, and something that is being dealt with in our culture, Tyree said it was necessary to include it in this book. ''You have to bring it up with sexuality,'' Tyree said. '' I had to bring it up to make sure I dealt with it.'' And it was very necessary to get from a male perspective. As Terrance searches to find out the secrets to pleasing women, he in turn falls for something he never knew would capture him, and begins to question himself on the issue of whether everyone is searching for the same thing. In that, the book deals with the ''baby mama drama'' that has become a prevalent situation in American society. It is so common these days, that many men believe they are being trapped into relationships, while the women are just trying to stay connected to them. In dealing with this situation with his sister, Terrance makes it a point to avoid women who are aiming to be attached. In the end though, he has to question what women are really looking for in intimacy. Does he have What They Want, or does he even know. Do women want the same thing men want? Maybe, if she truly listens to her own desires. This is cache, read story here |
