Doctor: Previous sex studies 'shortchanged' women by asking wrong questions Why do a repo... Doctor: Previous sex studies '
Over 4,000 people (33% more than the Hite Report) responded to the ISIS (Integrating Spirituality in Sexuality) Survey. Nearly all respondents said that emotional and spiritual elements in their sexual encounters were crucial for sexual satisfaction. Amazingly, less than 1% mentioned the physical act of intercourse. Ogden’s research reveals that previous sex studies actually shortchanged women by asking the wrong questions. They excluded feelings and meanings that are important to women’s sexual desire and satisfaction.
Now, Dr. Ogden has published the results of her study in a new book, The Heart and Soul of Sex: Making the ISIS Connection (Trumpeter Books, July 2006), offering an in-depth explanation of women’s sexual experience, and a revolutionary model of human sexuality that encompasses mind, heart, and soul, as well as body.
GINA OGDEN, Ph.D., is a licensed marriage and family therapist and certified sex therapist in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Ogden has appeared on numerous radio and television programs, including Oprah, and is the author of Women Who Love Sex.
