(London) A man who alleged he was fired bymulti-national banking company HSBC because he is gay is appealing after aBritish labor tribunal rejected his $9-million discrimination case.

Peter Lewis had sought $9 million in compensationfor his dismissal. It was the biggest case of its kind since Britain banneddiscrimination on the basis of sexuality.

HSBC had lured Lewis away from his former jobSociete Generale, where he was head of global client trading. But in the fivemonths he was at HSBC he said in his claim that he was subjected to continuedhomophobic slurs.

Lewis is seeking to appeal on the grounds thetribunal did not consider all of the facts in the case. The bank's appealclaims the labor board went beyond its mandate when it decided the company hadhandled the firing wrongly.
